MDRA Creates Two Ad-Hoc Board Positions And Approved
Nominations For Officer Positions:
Date Posted: December 11th, 2007
Written By:
Terry Blacklance
The Midwest Dirt Racing Association
continued it's work to Incorporate at the December 3rd board
meeting. At the November meeting the process to incorporate
was turned over to the board and the next phase set in motion.
Part of that process included the creation of officer
positions, their job description, and nominations to fill
those positions. Also discussed was the length of each term to
be served. The board reviewed several different options
available suggested by other organizations including the
NLRA and
NOSA
who've been around the process for several years, but in the
end worked out a organizational structure that was agreed upon
by full consensus of the current board.
Two unlimited Ad-hoc NON voting board members were added to
the MDRA Board in order to allow non-driver members to serve
on the board. The hope of the board is that these two will
create a more well rounded board and
provide two positions that may serve their roles in unlimited
terms. These positions should provide experience in the
offices they hold, for example as a Points Director or
Secretary/Treasurer where constant turnover could be
detrimental. These Ad-hoc positions will be reviewed by the
voting board annually and recommendations made at that time.
(The Ad-hoc positions will NOT be eligible to serve as either
the President or Vice President of the MDRA Board.)
Five officer positions were created including; Director of
Operations, President, Vice President, Secretary/Treasurer,
and MDRA Points Director. The remaining will serve
solely as Directors to the board. The board was asked to
consider job descriptions for each position and discussion
will continue at the
next meeting scheduled for January 12th in Grand Forks.
The following are the results of nominations by the board and
each were passed by full consensus of the board.
Position / Member / Term Due
Director of Operations / Terry BlackLance / (?)
President / Joe Potter / (09)
Vice-President / Dan McNamee / (09)
Secretary/Treasurer / Patty McNamee (contingent upon her

accepting) / (unlimited)
Director / Steffen Snare / (08)
Director / Rick Beier / (08)
Director / Jim Geringer / (08)

The discussion for job descriptions and process to replace
open board positions will be continued at the January 12th
meeting with information to follow at that time.

The
Midwest Modified Racing Series will hold it’s first ever
appreciation banquet January 12th, 2008 at the
Ramada Inn & Conference Center. This will also be in
conjunction with the MDRA Street Stock Racing Series.
In 2007, the
Midwest Modified division formed a two track series between
River Cities Speedway and
Devils Lake Speedway. Drivers would race and accumulate
points through July and take their top ten shows. Then the
chase would begin and through the end of the season the
drivers five best shows would be added to their total. This
point chase followed the theory of the DTRA to cut expenses of
the race teams.
The series
seen over sixty drivers participate with the top twenty
getting their share of the total point fund just over $30,000
of money and prizes. This banquet will recognize those drivers
and the series sponsors for the 2007 racing season. The top
ten drivers will receive trophies along with some appreciation
plaques for those deserving of the award.
There will be
a photo slideshow during the 5:30 PM Social with dinner being
served at 7:00 PM. The awards presentation with start at 8:00
PM with Pat Mooney hosting the ceremony.

MDRA Board Of Directors Makes Street Stock Rules
Recommendation For 2008:
Date Re-posted: December 29th, 2007
Written By:
Terry Blacklance
At its
December 3rd meeting the MDRA Board of Directors made the
recommendation to continue with the DTRA Street Stock rules
package in 2008. Although the recommendation was made by the
board, MDRA Board members agreed that it's important for the
driver members themselves to make that choice official. "It's
important for our membership to have that choice" says Joe
Potter the newly appointed MDRA President. "As a board we
should be obligated to put vital decisions in the hands of
those we serve" says Terry BlackLance Director of Operations.
The hope of the board is to have it's 2007 membership review
the individual rules packages of the regional sanctioning
groups who govern the Street Stock class, including
MDRA,
DTRA,
and
Wissota. Plenty of discussion concerning the
recommendation was had at the meeting. A review of the points,
and the two points championships of MDRA and DTRA and how they
benefited and worked together in 2007 was discussed. "Is there
a reason our drivers would chose anything but DTRA/MDRA?"
asked Board Director Rick Beier. "I suppose they could chose
IMCA rules.....but what we've done with DTRA and the ability
to remain flexible is a NO brainer" said BlackLance.
The official decision will be made by the 2007 MDRA driver
members and be announced "Officially" at the
MDRA Banquet tentatively scheduled for Jan.12th in Grand Forks.
Ballots ARE NOW AVAILABLE ONLINE and at the
banquet ONLY. The membership is encouraged to attend the
banquet, but for those that can NOT ballots may be mailed into
the MDRA Office and received NO LATER than January 11th, 2008.
2007 driver members will receive one vote only, and must
include all information requested on the ballot.
