On a night sponsored by Rydell GM Auto Center and the Broken Drum Bar & Casino, eighty-nine race teams participated in the Premier Racing Series event one week prior to the John Seitz Late Model Invitational. The Unicel Street Stock heat races were won by Dave Wittner who started on the pole and held off Rick Beier for the win. Aaron Olson won the second heat race over Greg Neumann and John Halverson handled the third heat from the pole over Jim Geringer.

The Dempsey Truck Service Midwest Modified heat races were won by Dale Kraling who started outside the front row and held off Dustin Wahl and Matt Sparby. Dave Riopelle led the majority of the second heat race only to slow on the last lap with mechanical issues which gave the win to Bryan Dydahl. The last heat race was won by Bobby Eckerdt who muscled his way past Jason Strand for the win. Eckerdt was running a tribute paint scheme to John Seitz.

The first of four heat races for the Atekparts.com DTRA Super Late Models was won by Mike Balcaen who started outside the front row. Seng picked up second with Steve Laursen third. Pat Doar had no problem finding the lead during the second heat race and taking the checkered flag ahead of Chad Corbett and Troy Schill. Dale Skytland used the pole position in the third heat race to his advantage and picked up the win holding off Weiss and Anderson. The last heat race was won by Joey Pederson who started on the pole with Brent Larson second from the third spot. Troy Olson came back from running fourth to pass Corbett for the third spot.

Shane Roemeling won his first heat race at RCS is 2007 to kick off the NOSA Sprint Car heats sponsored by Eide Motors. Nick Shirek was second after starting fourth. Chris Shirek looked to be the fastest and grab the lead from the fourth spot to win the second heat race over Jordan Graham and Bob Martin. Mark Dobmeier started the third heat race in the last row and motored past everyone to win the third heat race after changing motors at the close of hotlaps. Chirs Burke followed Dobmeier across the line with Jade Fredrickson in third.

There was a brief intermission for drivers to redraw and also for the Hugo’s/Nestle Kids candy toss from the flagstand in the main grandstand. The DTRA Late Models would run a consolation race taking the top four to start the feature. Doyle Erickson won the consi followed by Tom Corcoran who passed Jeff Pritchard for the second spot. Turk would be the last one taken from the consi to start the feature.

The Unicel Street Stock feature event was next with all twenty cars starting the feature. Steffen Snare and Joe Potter would start the feature on the front row, but it would be Potter that would get the short end of the stick when another car ripped his front nosepiece off forcing officials to throw a yellow flag and send him to the back for the caution. On the restart Snare would lead the group around to take the green and through two more caution Snare would hold off a hard charging Olson to hang on and win his seventh feature at River Cities Speedway this year. Geringer gave both Olson and Snare a run for their money as he finished in the second spot with Olson third. The three drivers had the closest race of all and action packed in every corner. Jason VandeKamp advanced eight spots to finish fourth as John Halverson rounded out the top five spots.

The Dempsey Truck Service Midwest Modified feature started with eighteen of the nineteen entrants. But within the first three laps the current points leader, Dustin Strands night ended as he slowed in turns three and four giving the lead to Bryan LePier. Bryan Dyrdahl pressured LePier for the lead throughout the rest of the race with the next best race for a top five spot with Kraling, Sparby, Eckerdt, and Jason Strand all racing hard for the spot. In the last five laps, Matt Sparby slowed with mechanical problems after running third the whole race. And with five laps to go, Dyrdahl completed the pass on LePier for the lead and continued on to win his first feature race at River Cities Speedway. LePier finished second with Dale Kraling holding off Eckerdt for the third spot and first-timer, Dan Wheeler rounded out the top five.

The Atekparts.com DTRA Late Model feature event was next with twenty-four cars starting the event with Seng and Larson of the front row. On the green flag start, larson immediately took the lead with Seng in the second spot and Pederson running third. With two laps complete, a caution was thrown and charged to Steve Laursen forcing him to start at the back. On the restart it was Larson who continued to lead with Pat Doar now making his way into the top five. There was no other caution flag that would come out as the leaders were entering lap traffic, Balcaen had now moved up a spot as Pederson pulled off the track with mechanical issues as did Ryan Corbett and Tom Balcaen. In lap traffic Seng was able to navigate lap traffic better and chose the line that allowed him to take the lead from Larson. In the same lap Doar passed Larson for the second spot and that is the way they would finish the race. It would be Seng’s first feature win at River Cities Speedway this year. Mike Balcaen followed Larson across the line for fourth and Troy Olson finished fifth from the tenth starting spot.

The Edie Motors Sprint Car feature event started with Graham and Roemeling on the front row and Fredrickson and Nick Shirek on the second row. On the start it was Justin Berg that brought out the first caution with Graham in the lead and Roemeling second. On the next few green flag laps, Martin had moved into the top five with Dobmeier running the high groove. Dobmeier had just taken the lead with Martin behind him before the next caution flag waved. With just seventeen laps to go, the leaders entered lap traffic and the yellow flag waved for Chris Shirek. At this time, Nygaard had moved into the top five spots from the eleventh starting spot as did Kennedy from the thirteenth spot. As Dobmeier continued to lead the rest tried to advance a spot or two. Greg Nikitenko quietly made his way forward while Kennedy, Martin, and Nygaard raced for the second spot. Nikitenko overtook each of them to finish in the second spot when Dobmeier crossed under the checkered flag. Martin was third ahead of Kennedy and Nygaard.

This coming Thursday and Friday will be the 1 st Annual John Seitz Late Model Invitational. Thursday night will be all the Late Model Heats, plus a full program for the Street stocks and the Midwest Modifieds. Strand, Geringer, Restad, And Barnes Win Track Championships:
Date Posted:  September 4th, 2007
Written By:
Mike Orness

The first night of September was the Track Championship night for the Devils Lake Speedway. Going into the night, the points races for the Hornets and Pure Stocks was very close, as Restad needed to finish the race ahead of Schill and Barnes just needed to finish the feature to claim the points championships for 2007. The Street Stocks and Midwest Modifieds were clinched before the night started.

In the Hornet qualifying events, points leader Richard Barnes won the first heat race from the pole. Shawn Zinke won the second heat race from the fourth spot when Vasichek hit the cone on a restart and was sent to the back but finished in the second spot. Bryan Russell won the third heat from the pole position.

The two Pure Stock heat races were won by Jason Thoms and Aaron Restad. Lance Schill who was a very close second to Restad failed to start the heat race and feature.

In the two MDRA/DTRA Street Stock heat races, point leader Jim Geringer won the first heat race from the pole position with Joe Potter second and Dan McNamee third. Scott Messner led the majority of the second heat race till his engine gave out giving the lead to Dale Fugleberg. Dan Arends passed Cliff Reeves for the second spot in the closing laps.

With just eight Midwest Modifieds on hand, they ran one qualifying event with Strand leading from green to checkered. Sobolik ran second for the majority of the race with Kruk passing him late in the race for the second finishing spot. Sobolik was third with LePier fourth and David Hultstrand fifth.

All four feature events were ran after a short intermission and the kids candy toss. In the Hornet feature, Richard Barnes and Shawn Zinke led the field around to the green flag. Zinke grabbed the lead with Barnes challenging him for the first couple laps. Barnes slipped back as Russell, Vasichek, and Ebensteiner all passed him for a spot behind Zinke who continued to lead. Russell couldn’t catch Zinke for the lead as he raced under the checkered flag. Vasichek followed Russell across the line for the third spot with Ebensteiner fourth and Naastad passed Barnes for a top five finish.

The Pure Stock feature event was filled with cautions, but the point leader, Restad, led from the green flag to the checkered flag to pick up the track championship for 2007. Jason Thoms of Rugby finished second with Jay Loughman, also of Rugby, finishing third. James Ackerman started third and finished fourth with Kevin Kollman rounding out the top five spots.

The DTRA/MDRA Street Stock feature started with the two heat race winners, Geringer and Fugleberg, on the front row. On the start it was Geringer that would lead the rest with close racing for the top five spots early on. There was only two caution that tightened up the field for a restart, otherwise Geringer would lead every lap on his way to clinch the track championship for points. Joe Potter would pass Fugleberg for the second finishing spot with Fugleberg finishing third, ahead of Reeves and Arends who would round out the top five.

The Service Tire Inc. DTRA Midwest Modifieds would finish off the night with their feature and since it was track championship night, the feature would also line up with the heat race winners on the front row. Strand and Kruk led the field around to take the green flag. Immediately, LePier looked to take the lead from Strand and Kruk. LePier would be credited for leading a lap, then he and Strand raced side by side for the next couple laps. Then
Strand was able to secure the lead but not without LePier getting in close on the low groove. Kruk looked to take the second spot from LePier late in the race using one groove up on the track, but couldn’t make it stick out of the corners. Strand Took the checkered flag and was crowned the track champion for 2007. LePier would be second with Kruk chasing him across the line. Hultstrand advanced one spot to finish fourth with Sobolik fifth.

Thanks all the drivers and fans for another fantastic season at Devils Lake Speedway!  Devils Lake Speedway will finish off the year this Saturday with the Eve of Destruction. The final night of racing at Norman County Raceway in Ada was a great night of racing. With 83 cars , including several first time drivers at NCR, fans were treated to two, three and four lanes of racing. In the modified feature, CorkY Thomas led 15 of 16 laps, the only lap he didn't lead was the final lap. Thomas started in front and held off challenges from Shane Sabraski for several laps. As Sabraski was looking for any possible way to get by Thomas, Sabraski was on the bottom of the fourth corner when he touched the infield tire and spun out with four laps to go. After a third re-start with the four laps to go, Blake Jetvig continued to use the top lane and Brian Strand was challenging on the bottom. Thomas could hold on for only so long, as the three cars passed the start-finish line, they would be side by side for the corners of one and two and through the back straight, coming out of corners three and four, Jetvig had enough to cross the finish line just ahead of Strand and Thomas would settle for third. It was a fantastic finish to a fantastic year of racing at NCR. In the other features, Troy Kuehl led start to finish in the four cylinder. Shayne Laske completed the two night sweep of the Mod Four feature. Shane Sabraski would pass Danny Strem with three laps remaining to win the Midwest Mod feature. Justin Olson overtook Chad Geray with four laps remaining to win the Purestock feature. Here's all the results:

The 1st Annual John Seitz Memorial Late Model Invitational at River Cities Speedway was held this past weekend, September 6th and 7th . Prior to this year this event was called the Harvest Bowl of Late Models. With the unexpected passing of John Seitz this past winter, River Cities Speedway along with the Seitz Family organized to rename this great event to honor one of the speedways greatest drivers. The two day event started off with cloudy skies and a threat of rain, but gave way to sunshine later Thursday night to kick-off the event.

First up would be three MDRA/DTRA Street Stock heat races. Dave Wittner won the first heat race after racing Terry Blacklance side by side for a few laps. Rick Beier picked up the second spot from the third spot. Jim Geringer came from the fourth spot to win the second heat race over Steve Jose and Aaron Olson. Steffen Snare started on the pole of the first heat race and led every lap to claim the win with Greg Neumann in second and John Halvorson in third.

The DTRA/MDRA Dempsey Truck Service Midwest Modifieds ran three heat races with Bryan Dtrdahl claiming the win in the first heat race from the third starting spot. SanGrait led at the start of the race but was passed by Dyrdahl, then Kraling made contact with SanGrait forcing both to retire. Bohlman finished second with Sobolik third. Johnny Zastrow started the second heat race on the pole and assumed the lead when the suspension gave out on Sparby’s car while leading. Sonstelie was second with Dan Ness third. Dustin Strand used the outside front row starting spot to his advantage and won the third heat race leading every lap. Eckerdt finished second in his Seitz tribute car from the third starting spot with pole sitter, Peterson third.

There were a total of fifty-three DTRA Super Late Models that were on hand to pay tribute to John and take home the beautiful traveling trophy for the 1 st Annual Memorial race. The first night’s race action were the heat races and the Dash that would pay the winner $920. The first heat race was won by Joel Cryderman from the pole position Jeff Hinkemeyer was second with Ricky Weiss third. Breeschoten came from the eighth spot to finish fourth and Matt Aukland rounded out the top five.

Terry Casey took control of the second heat race from the pole with Ashley Anderson running second. Tom Corcoran and Scott Greer raced side by side for the fourth spot with Corcoran picking up that position. Casey won the heat with Anderson and Larson chasing him across the line. Greer ended up in the fifth spot and would have to come through the consi to start the feature.

On the front row of the third heat race were Brad Seng and Chad Corbett. Seng grabbed the lead first with Chuckie DeSmith second and Mike Nutzmann third from the sixth spot. That is the way they would finish as Seng took the checkered flag. Tom Balcaen started fourth and finished in the same spot with James SanGrait fifth from the seventh starting spot.

Steve Laursen took the lead early in the fourth heat race with lance Mathees charging forward and picking up the second spot when Laursen took the checkered flag. Dave Mass ended up third with Ron Schreiner fourth from the sixth starting spot. Shaun Peterson rounded out the top five after starting outside the front row.

During the fifth heat race with Ryan Corbett and Dustin Hapka on the front row, Mitch Johnson charged forward from the seventh starting spot to take the checkered flag with Pat Doar following him to the front and finish second. Troy Olson started fourth and finished third with Hapka fourth and Corbett fifth.

Joey Pederson started on the pole of the sixth heat race with Jeff Provinzino outstide. Provinzino grabbed the early lead, with Pederson second and Zach Johnson third. Pederson passed Provinzino for the lead late in the race to pick up the win. Provinzino was second with Johnson third. Mike Balcaen would end up fourth after starting eighth while Don Shaw was fifth in his Seitz tribute car.

The Dash for the late models would be the nights last event and would pay the winner $920 while also drawing a card to see where all eight drivers would start the feature. With Mathees and Laursen on the front row to start the dash, Laursen would grab the leed first and finish first with Pat Doar second and Lance Mathees third. While in victory lane, Laursen was interviewed and then drew a card to see how many drivers would be inverted. Laursen drew an 8 which would put the eighth finisher, Joey Pederson on the pole for the feature and Laursen would have to start eighth.

Just before the Late Model Dash, was the Midwest Modified feature race. This had Sonstelie and Dyrdahl on the front row, with Schroeder and Strand in the second row. On the start it was Dyrdahl that would grab the lead first, but would be passed by Strand for the lead with about five laps complete. Schroeder was running strong and was third with Sonstelie fourth. Eckerdt soon moved into the fourth spot, passing Sonstelie and looked to pass Schroeder for another spot while Strand was out front. With just three laps to go, there was a caution which would reset the field for a restart. Strand and Dyrdahl were both caught up in the caution with lap traffic, but were able to keep going. On the restart, Dyrdahl caught Strand and passed him for the win on the last lap. Strand finished second with Schroeder holding off Eckerdt for the third spot. Sonstelie rounded out the top five after starting on the pole.

The Unicel Street Stock feature started twenty-four cars with Aaron Olson and Jim Geringer on the front row to bring the field around to the green flag. With two immediate cautions before a lap was complete, there was one unfortunate car that had
