A Letter From MDRA President, Joseph Potter:

I hope you had a good off season and are looking forward to the up coming race season.  I just wanted to update you on some items that the MDRA Street Stock Board has been working on this past off season to help promote the Street Stock Racing in the area.  Please read carefully the entire letter, I know it is long but we wanted to make sure you stayed informed as to what is taking place.  If you know of anyone that did not receive this letter please share this with them or have them contact us so that we can get the correct mailing address for them.

At the time of this letter the following will take place for the 2008 season at River Cities Speedway and Devils Lake Speedway.

GOODYEAR TIRES:
Goodyear tires will be ran for all regular race nights at both tracks.  MDRA has approximately 61 brand new tires on hand that can be purchased from Joe Potter or Jim Geringer by either Cash or Check for the amount of $110.00 per tire.  There are also a number of Used Goodyear tires available from B-Mod Drivers due to they are going to a Hoosier tire in 2008.  Be sure to get in touch with any B-Mod driver that had Goodyear tires last year as you may have an opportunity to purchase some good used Goodyears.

Feel free to ask around to find out who these drivers are or check out the message boards.

Should we (MDRA Street Stock Board) feel we will run out of the brand new Goodyear tires before the end of the year we will determine an alternative course of action in the near future and relay that information.

Also a reminder that in 2009 River Cities Speedway and Devils Lake Speedway will be sanctioning the Street Stocks with WISSOTA, so make sure you prepare your race program to allow for different tires in 2009.  (Hoosier) and We hope this is the last change we will need for a long time (Tires).

MOTOR RULE FOR 2008:
The motor rule vote was open to all drivers and was taken this past winter and counted at the annual awards banquet and was posted on the web site and message board and the final numbers showed that we will follow the WISSOTA/DTRA motor rule package beginning in 2008.

Just a reminder that this will be enforced at both race tracks beginning with the first race of the year, please have your Motors ready on opening night so that we have no issue’s with drivers being disqualified.

MEMBERSHIP:
The MDRA membership fee this year will be $55.00 and will be required in order to race at both race tracks.  There will also be Temp membership available again like in the past.

WEEKLY PAYOUT:
The MDRA Board has put together a raffle to help raise money for the weekly payout.  The raffle that we have chosen is called the Summer of Money, raffle tickets that are purchased will be eligible for cash drawing to be held every Friday and Saturday during the race season.

Here is where you as the drivers come in, we are asking that each MDRA Member sell 10 raffle ticket each raffle ticket will cost $10.00.  The MDRA Board has decided that the best way to insure we sell the raffle tickets is to have the drivers pay for the raffle tickets up front and then sell them to recoup the money they paid up front.  Each Driver/Member will need to pay $100.00 for the raffle tickets plus the $55.00 for the MDRA Membership at the same time. The Driver/Member will in turn receive there 10 raffle tickets to sell plus there Membership.  When the raffle tickets are sent out there will be instructions on when they have to be turned back in and who to turn them into.

The MDRA Board has decided at this time that instead of having a year end Point Fund that we would use the money raised to help support the weekly payout for finishing position on that night of racing.  Currently we are looking at increasing the payout for the finishing positions of 1st thru 16th.  We are currently looking at adding $220.00 to the nightly payout for each race track.  MDRA will be paying the driver directly not the race track.  We will have a payout break down on the opening night of racing and every night of racing should a driver want to know how much they would receive for a certain finishing position on that night of racing.  This payout maybe increased or payout further back because we are also in discussion with River Cities Speedway and Devils Lake Speedway on contributing additional money that will help in increasing the weekly payout by position.

In order to receive the increased payout by position you must be a Full Time Member of MDRA and purchase the 10 raffle tickets, you must do both items in order to receive the increased payout by position.  We are asking that you please pay your membership and raffle tickets in advance so that we can get a good start on the year with selling the raffle tickets.  We are asking that they be paid for by April 30, 2008.

If you need Brand New Goodyear Tires you can contact:

Joe Potter 701 – 741 – 5732

Jim Geringer 701 – 730 – 1755

Thank You,
MDRA President

MDRA Board Meets April 14th To Finalize 2008 Season Plans:

The 2008 race season is approaching fast and will be here before you know it. The MDRA board met Monday night April 14th and finalized several issues concerning the 2008 season including a TECH nights the first two nights at both River Cities Speedway and Devils Lake Speedway, and the "Summer of Money" point fund raising effort by the drivers.

A group of drivers has been formed and will be checking cars new and old throughout the season for primarily SAFETY items, but with the aid of both River Cities Speedway and Devils Lake Speedway will also be ear marking specific performance items as well. The board would like to ask that if you are coming to either of the tracks for the first time......you PLEASE come early so that your car can be checked by members of the committee.

Regarding the "Summer of Money", details of price and amount of tickets being issued has been finalized. Each fulltime driver will receive ten ($10) tickets to sell. The funds raised in 2008 will be ear marked to increase nightly payouts with a goal of $220 per night. The board felt that the BEST way to use the fund this year is to get it back to the drivers when you need it most.....during the season. Some funds have been set aside as well for a year end POINT FUND, but will only be nominal and yet to be determined. Our intention is to make this raffle as easy as we can for drivers to recoup the $100 ten ticket packet cost. We'll be sure it's announced fans can stop at their favorite drivers trailers to get theirs following the races. Each ticket will be eligible for ALL thirty-one $50 drawings that will be made at intermission of Friday's River Cities Show, and Saturdays Devils Lake Show, so they will be at a premium and should be EASY to sell.

Back to the teching......the MDRA board feels that although much of the responsibility of "performance enhancing issues" should be handled by the promoting facility, drivers also need to take responsibility of policing their own on issues of "Safety" for sure considering we're racing with these competitors. A local organization is available to deal with ANY issues in a civil manor and should NOT go unheard, and the mind set of being a "Whistle blower" is irresponsible from here on out. ALL competitors will be treated the same......with respect and fairness to ensure the Street Stock division remains a success and continues to build.

Finally a recent item on "Raceceivers".....the MDRA board will be making a recommendation that River Cities Speedway wait at least until 2009 to consider racecievers for use in the Streets. This will give the organization a chance to review their use and effectiveness and research ways to make it affordable for our drivers. However the final decision will be left to River Cities as the other three divisions will be using them in 2008.

In closing...please watch for the Street membership packets out in the mail this week. Please be sure to return ANY of the enclosed items including your membership form, check, and W-9 tax form ASAP. A receipt will be used as your membership and MUST be stamped MDRA in order to be valid. Thanks and we'll see you at the track.
