Midwest Modified Racing Series Holds Banquet:

The first annual banquet
for the inaugural season of the Midwest Modified Racing Series
was held recently in Grand Forks, ND. The event was also held
in conjunction with the MDRA Street Stock Series. In 2007,
River Cities Speedway and
Devils Lake Speedway were the host tracks every weekend
during the race season. Drivers accumulated points based on
their finishing order in the feature race. The top ten shows
of each driver would then be used to figure the top ten
drivers after July. From August through September, the
driver’s five best shows would be added to the total, to crown
the first champion of the two track series.

Dustin Strand held a slight
margin over Bobby Eckerdt for the top spot going into the last
two nights of the season. Strand won one of the two nights to
clinch the championship, and earn his paycheck of just over
$1500 cash and another $1000 of contingency prizes. Eckerdt
finished the season in second with Bryan LePier in third.
Rookie of the year was Ryan Schroeder who finished in the
fourth spot followed by Patrick Sobolik.
The point fund was distributed
through twentieth place with drivers also winning their share
of contingency prizes. Many supporters signed on the first
year, such as Snap-On, Fatman Signs & Graphics, Mac Tools,
Carquest, Advanced Auto, BP Oil/gas, Barker’s Racing Supply,
Smitty’s Transmission, Everson’s Auto Parts, Johnson Oil,
Orness Creations, CSK Proshop, Specialty Fabricating, Matco
Tools. Series sponsors were Dempsey Truck Service of Grand
Forks, and Service Tire Inc. of Devils Lake.
The Series ran under the DTRA
banner along with the support of the MDRA. The combined total
of all prizes, cash, tire sales, track funds, and the series
sponsors totaled just over $30,000. Drivers in the top ten all
received their trophy, point fund check, and contingency
prizes at the banquet while drivers in eleventh through
twentieth, all received a point fund check with most receiving
prizes also. The trophy’s were purchased by Orness Creations
while they also paid for special appreciation plaques given
to; both hosting tracks, the two series sponsors, three
drivers for perfect attendance, (Strand, Sobolik, & Hultstrand).
Ryan Schroeder was awarded the Rookie of the year plaque just
before all the the trophies were handed out.

The Series point fun is derived
mainly from tire sales. This is a major factor along with the
series sponsors and supporters. Without the supporters, the
series would not have become reality. 2008 should be an
interesting year with many new drivers to add to the already
long list of returning drivers. If you or your business would
like to be involved with our series, please contact Mike
Orness at 701-351-3030.

$10,000.00 Awarded To MDRA Street Stock Drivers At January
12th Banquet:

The
Midwest Dirt Racing Association in conjunction with the
Midwest Modified Racing Series held their 2007 Awards Banquet
Saturday January 12th at the Ramada Inn of Grand Forks and is
pleased to announce drivers participating in the Street Stock
division were awarded $10,000.00 in cash plus some donated
contingency awards as part of the festivities.
Nearly 50
drivers participated as part of the two track series that
required drivers to participate in 50% of each of the nightly
programs at
River Cities Speedway and
Devils Lake Speedway and total of each drivers weekly
points to decide the final standings. Put together through
the MDRA in 2007, things couldn't have worked out any better
for our local drivers. In 2007 the MDRA's goal was to find a
way for local drivers to tap into a point fund that didn't
require thousands of miles of travel and expenses in order to
receive a nominal return. Instead we found a way to put
together a pretty good fund which primarily came from an
exclusive agreement with Good Year Tire Company and a
partnership with the
DTRA
that drivers could take part in with far less travel and
expenses and GREAT returns averaging $1100 per driver.
The
2007 MDRA "Participation Fund" qualifiers and winners are as

Our hope
is to use the success of the 2007 season to continue the
series growth in 2008. Winter meetings have continued during
the off season, with work being done to maintain and improve
on what was accomplished. Our hope is that drivers have now
seen first hand what cooperation and some work can accomplish,
and the 2008 season will be just as successful if not more
successful for drivers who want to participate.
The MDRA
would like to thank Good Year Tires, DTRA, Gateway Amaco
(Bobby Eckerdt), Service Tire of Devils Lake, River Cities
Speedway, Devils Lake Speedway, and all of our superior
drivers and teams for a great season. |

featured MDRA race teams, and each of the MDRA host facilities
hosted successful events that saw great visiting car counts
and traveling fans out to get their race car fix.
In 2008 the MDRA has created some exciting and affordable ways
for businesses to get involved. Several marketing packages
have been designed, with nearly every budget in mind. From
online links and banners on this site, to EXCLUSIVE Corporate
marketing the MDRA has got it covered. We've got a great
website with thousands of visitors yearly, and two full time
MDRA race facilities that host thousands of loyal race fans
weekly. Our drivers not only race at our two premier facility
partners, but compete throughout a four state region and
Canada at events as well. The MDRA not only creates great
visibility, but a loyal base of new customers that enjoy race
events and racing news of our drivers.
If you're a business that enjoys motorsports in general, and
you'd like to find yourself as one of the
featured business partners

associations. Please make a point to contact the Midwest
